![]() ![]() From the parking lot, there is a 10-15 minutes hike (very easy BTW) to the Lighthouse area. We were able to find parking in the designated parking area, just in front of the gates en route to the Lighthouse. It was not crowded, but one could sense that that was about to change. Since we didn't have a plan, this was a place I found that could be fun and will give us a chance to do some research regarding other potential areas to visit while in the park. There is even a small pond with picnic tables around it were one can enjoy nature.įrom there, we took Point Reyes Petaluma Road all the way into the park, al the way to the Point Reyes Lighthouse Station. ![]() The area surrounding the establishment is fantastic for that sort of activity. We bought a panini, sparkling wine, some ham, and there was our picnic. We did not know about this place, so it was our first score of the day as the establishment is great! They don't only sell cheese, they have everything you need for a very good picnic. Since we did not have breakfast, our first stop was at the Marin French Cheese Store. That was the best option as we were able to enjoy more of the natural beauty of the area. From the Sacramento area, we were taken south via I 80 and then right before hitting Richmond/Vallejo we were instructed to go through Road 37. I just searched on my google app Point Reyes National Park and let the app do the rest. I heard about this park before, but I did not do any research before hand. My wife an I wanted to relax from work, so we decided to do a "short" trip from the greater Sacramento area to Point Reyes national Park. ![]() The scenery and the animals were nice though. I would like to revisit Point Reyes again when the road to the Lighthouse is reopened or maybe one of the other beaches there (which hopefully won't have such rude people). I did see some other wildlife (like elk, deer, cows, etc.) on the way back and got some photos which made the trip somewhat worth it. She also was screaming at other people on the beach earlier when I arrived, I felt uncomfortable after that incident and ended up leaving the beach right after. The scenery was nice though I accidently walked by a sleeping elephant seal (that I didn't notice at first which was 12ft away from me) and a rude park ranger started screaming at me across the beach and causing a scene. It was disappointing especially since it was a clear sunny day though I ended up stopping by one of the beaches nearby instead. There is no set reopening date yet and online it said "closed until further notice" so I recommend checking online for updates before you go. The road of the last 6 miles to the lighthouse was closed and I didn't get to see it or the elephant seal overlook. ![]()
